We
are a group of amateurs who enjoy wine and find great pleasure in learning
more about it. We promote our interest by holding regular meetings at various
venues in Inverness; our regular meetings take place approximately monthly
between September and May, generally on the last Monday evening of the month,
although this can vary, usually to suit the schedules of our visiting speakers.
Our tastings are led by speakers who have particular knowledge of the wines
being tasted and our tastings are based either on wines of particular regions
or grape varieties. |
The possibility of making direct comparisons of different wines (usually
about six wines are sampled during a tasting) is a particularly valuable
aid in increasing our experience and knowledge.
During the meeting we usually complete tasting notes, to remind us of the
characteristics of the wines we are sampling and the evening concludes with
a supper accompanied by some "quaffing" wine. Whilst there is usually an
opportunity to place an order for any of the wines we have tasted, there
is absolutely no obligation to do so.
In addition to the wines tasted at our regular tastings, the Inverness Wine
Appreciation Society maintains its own cellar stocks of fine wines laid down
over many years for use at banquets we hold every five years and occasionally
as part of our regular tastings or annual general meetings. We usually hold
a summer event in June or July each year as well and can take a variety of
formats from year to year.
We hope you find our website interesting and that you will come back soon.

| If you are not already a member and would like to have information
about joining us, please write or send an e-mail to our Secretary - the 'Contact'
link will show you how to do this. You may also download a Membership
Application Form from the 'Contact' page. If you are interested, you
will be made very welcome if you decide to come to one of our tastings, but
we ask that you contact the Secretary in the first instance so that seating
arrangements may be made with the hotel. There is a modest charge to cover
the cost of the wine and the supper. You never know, you might like it! |
